Shirley Stubbs Obituary

Shirley Mae Stubbs

ASHTABULA-Shirley Mae Stubbs, 85, passed away at the Ashtabula Co. Medical Center on March 22, 2022.

She was born in Ashtabula, Ohio August 18, 1936 the daughter of Dazho “Dan” and Julia (Kovacs) Hathy.

Shirley was a 1954 graduate of Edgewood High School.  On her 20th birthday she married Donald Stubbs, her loving and devoted husband of 48 years.  She was a school bus driver for many years; from 1978-1980 for Happy Hearts and from 1982-1996 for Buckeye Local Schools.  She was an active and dedicated member of the Kingsville First Baptist Church for over 60 years; from volunteering in the kitchen and chairing the social committee to being a Sunday School teacher for the younger children.

She enjoyed so many things in life: baking and cooking were her specialties, especially all her old traditional Hungarian recipes; she liked to play pinochle and BINGO, she also enjoyed canning.  When springtime rolled around it was baseball season, and she loved her Cleveland Indians, and she faithfully watched every game.  She enjoyed so many things in life, but what she loved most was being a "Mom".  Having a family and working hard to raise good kids was so very important to her.  She was the most genuine person you could ever know, and her integrity will never be forgotten.

She is survived by her loving family: her son Bruce Stubbs of Venice, Fl; her daughter Beverly (Mark) Edwards of Worthington, Ohio; and her grandchildren: Lily Appugliese, Skylar Edwards, Simone Edwards, and Cayla Weston.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald in 2004, her sister Irene Ehrcke, her brothers: Frank, Edward, and William Hathy; and her cat “Fritz” that she absolutely adored.

Funeral services will be held on Friday March 25th at the Kingsville First Baptist Church, 6003 State Route 193, Kingsville, Ohio.  Calling hours will be from 10:30-11:30 with the funeral service starting at 11:30 with Rev. David Hines officiating.  A luncheon will immediately follow the funeral and then a private burial will take place at Saybrook Twp. Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the church in her name, envelopes will be available at the services or can be mailed to: Kingsville First Baptist Church, PO Box 33, Kingsville, Ohio 44048.
