ASHTABULA-Robert Theodore “Bob” Schwartz, 88, passed away on December 10, 2025.
He was born on April 27, 1937, in Brooklyn, New York, to Beatrice and Sidney Schwartz. Bob attended PS 217 before moving to Cleveland, Ohio, in 1950. In his youth, he enjoyed playing tennis, baseball, and running track. As an adult bob won many tennis tournaments in Cleveland and Ashtabula.
Bob attended Kent State University for two years, studying business, before proudly serving in the United States Army as a radio operator. Following his service, he worked for Commonwealth Insurance for 22 years and later spent several years with the Lou Cohen automobile business.
He enjoyed both playing tennis and watching his favorite sports teams, the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jayne (Acitelli) Schwartz, whom he married on June 17, 1978; his daughters, Joanna (Joe) Merrill and Gina (Matthew) Root; and his grandchildren, Emma Merrill, Dylan Merrill, and Colton Root. He is also survived by his sister, Linda Blackstone, and his brothers-in-law, Victor Acitelli and James Acitelli.
The family would like to give a very heartfelt thank you to the following: ARMC, Hillcrest, Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, Adoration Hospice, DaVita Dialysis, Country Neighbor and Dr. Al-Assaad and Dr. Fakolade for all the kindness and compassionate care they gave to Bob over the years.
