Nelson Luciano Marquez DeJesus

SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP - Nelson Luciano Marquez DeJesus, 62, passed away unexpectedly at home, in his sleep, on February 15, 2025.

He was born in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico on November 8, 1962, the son of Luciano DeJesus and Ana Marquez.

In 1981 he moved to Geneva, Ohio.  

Nelson worked for several different places until he came across Arcola Creek Nursery in 1997.  The owners, Victor and Elaine, and his coworkers became like family to Nelson.  He was a hard-working man all his life, and he was respected by his coworkers for his profound work ethic. He was a supervisor and crew leader at the nursery, he had planned to retire this coming fall and return home to Puerto Rico.

Nelson enjoyed spending time with family and friends, he loved attending pig roasts in the summertime, and he was known to occasionally crack open a Keystone Light from time to time after a hard day of work.  He had four children whom he was very proud of and loved very much; while he wasn’t always the best at showing it or saying it when he was a younger dad, he did get “softer” as he got older and more so when he became a “Papa”.  Nelson gave all the credit in the world to his daughter's mother Jennifer and his son's mother Davina for their children becoming such good people, and good parents to their own children.

He is survived by his mother Ana in Puerto Rico; his 4 children: Adriana Marquez, Jessica (Johnny) Sanabria, David DeJesus and Nelson (Santina Graceffo) DeJesus; his grandchildren: Demariana, Elesiana, Leroy, Johnathon (Maleah), Mercedes, Ezmiyah, Romeo, Oakley, Emmsley, and Delannie; he also has one great-grandson on the way coming in June; And his siblings: his brothers: Ramon, Jose, Carlos, and Expedito; and his sisters: Luz Celenia, Maria, Carmen and Samira; numerous nieces, nephews and close friends and his very dear friend Roman “Giyo”  that he loved like a brother.

He was preceded in death by his father Luciano, his brother Miguel “Mickey” And his former wife and dear friend, Davina Smith, who passed in 2022.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Czup Funeral Home, 1329 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, OH calling hours will be from 5 to 7 with the funeral service starting at 7:00.
