Michael G. Whitney, Sr., 54, passed away unexpectedly on June 7, 2024, at UH Ravenna Medical Center Emergency Room.
He was born in Rochester, New York, on October 5, 1969, the son of George and Linda (Knopp) Whitney.
After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps and very proudly served his country. For the past 25 years Mike worked as a union meat cutter; most recently at Meijer and in the past at Whole Foods, Tops, and Giant Eagle.
Mike loved to fish, hunt and garden. He was also known as quite the “foodie”, he loved making or enjoying a great meal with family and friends. Mike had fornewed his strong Catholic faith and was very proud to be a Marine; but nothing was greater in this world than his love for his children.
He is survived by his loving family: his mother Linda; his children Amber (Chad Damian) Whitney, Heather (Carl) Diehl, Michael (Christine Tran) Whitney, Jr., and Cassidy (Matthew Smithburger) Whitney; his granddaughter Ava Jean Smithburger; and his siblings: Linda (Craig) Battaglia, Lisa (David) Silloway, and Josh (Leslie) Whitney.
He was preceded in death by his father and his brother Randy.
Services to celebrate Mike’s life will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Streetsboro American Legion, 10001 Aurora-Hudson Road, Hudson, Ohio 44236.
