Michael Sharkey

Michael Terry Sharkey, 69, passed away unexpectedly on April 18, 2021 in Sheffield, Pennsylvania.  Michael was born on May 2, 1951 in Dubois, Pennsylvania the son of Terry and Patricia (McClure) Sharkey.

Michael graduated from Ashtabula High School in 1969 and went on to study Marine Biology at Cape Fear Technical Institute.  Michael married the love of his life Joyanna A. (Pebbles) Sharkey on March 22, 1975.  Recently they celebrated their 46th Wedding Anniversary. In 1973 he began his 30 year career as a Police Officer. He spent 26 years with the Ashtabula City Police Department where he retired in 2003 spending most of his career at the rank of Sargent. During his time as a Police Officer he was also a member of the Ashtabula County SWAT Team and a firearms instructor for the police department.

Michael had many interests and hobbies. He enjoyed, hunting, fishing, outdoor wildlife, watching football, attending baseball games, and riding his Harley. For almost 20 years he had volunteered at St. Joseph’s Church's annual Fish Fry. Throughout the years Michael proudly attended all of his daughters' school sporting events. The source of Michael’s true joy and happiness was spending quality time at home with his loving family.

Michael is survived by, his wife Joyanna (Joy), his daughters Danni Sharkey and Jenna Sharkey, his siblings Robert (Karen) Sharkey, Karen (Carter) Lee, Debbie (Dave) Welton along his with many wonderful friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Linda Downing, his brother Jeff Sharkey, and his mother-in-law Bernice Pebbles.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 23rd , 2021 at St. Joseph’s Church. Calling hours will be from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. with a mass of Christian Burial to follow at 12:00 p.m. Czup Funeral Home will be handling all of the arrangements for the family. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Saint Vincent DePaul Society.
