February 16, 1918 – October 24, 2020

Margaret R. Mello (102) of Ashtabula died on October 24, 2020 in Bradenton, FL.

Born February 16, 1918 in Ashtabula, she was the daughter of Michael and Mary (Bartone) Rose.

Margaret graduated from Ashtabula High School, Class of 1934. She retired in 1983 from the Auditor’s Office at the Ashtabula County Courthouse in Jefferson, OH.

Margaret was a long time Avon Representative, a Presiding Judge for the Ashtabula Board of Elections, volunteered at the food pantry at Faith Lutheran Church and she was a volunteer at Ashtabula County Medical Center.

She was a lifetime member of Mother of Sorrows Church and a member of the Altar & Rosary Society. She belonged to the Elks Lodge Ladies Auxiliary and the Anita Garibaldi Lodge. Margaret loved spending her winters in Florida, crocheting, reading, playing cards, traveling and socializing.

Survivors include her daughters: Sharon Mello of Parrish, FL, Debbie (Joe) Notarianni of Ashtabula, Beverly Daniel (John Cusano) of Bradenton, FL and daughter-in-law Judy DeCamp of Palm Harbor, FL.

Grandchildren: Kimberly (Billy) Cowan, Kate (Bill) Burkey, Megan Notarianni and Justin (Lindsey) Daniel. Great grandchildren: Spencer & Ayla Harrington, Ben & Jake Burkey, Foster & Lane Daniel. She is also survived by her brother Michael Rose II.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence whom she married on January 18, 1941, her son Michael, granddaughter Kristin Mello, her parents and siblings Ralph, Dorothy, Jennie, Theresa, Edward, Joe and Eleanor.

Funeral mass will be Thursday November 5 at 11:00 AM at Mother of Sorrows Church, 1464 W. 6th Street, Ashtabula. Visitation will be held one hour before the Mass from 10:00-11:00. Masks will be required. It will also be streamed live – live streaming on the Our Lady of Peace Facebook LIVE page @OLOPAshtabula

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Mother of Sorrows Church or to St. John School, 7911 Depot Road, Ashtabula, OH 44004 in her memory.
