John Rainey

John E. Rainey, 83, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on  on August, 28th in Saybrook, Ohio.

He was born on August 8th, 1938 in New Castle, Pennsylvania, the son of Luigi and Geraldine (Harshman) Rainey.

After graduating High School he enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country for 6 years. He was on the USS Hornet as an Aviation Electronics Technician. During his time in the Navy he received a good conduct medal in 1964.

On November 12th, 1965, John married the love of his life Faye Crum and together they raised a beautiful family.

John was a bus driver for CTS, a service manager and technician for multiple vending companies an retired from Automatic Music and Vending.

John's children would like to share some personal memories that they will forever hold dear to their heart.

From his son John K. Rainey: My dad was the first person I ever saw play the guitar and it became a lifelong passion of mine.  He gave me my first taste of being a mechanic, he taught me how to work on cars and electronics.  He could always find something to laugh at.  I went with him to Bucyrus once and I saw the road sign for it and I mispronounced it "Bukkyruss" which he though was hilarious, we had many laughs about that one.

From his son James E. Rainey: My dad taught me how to fix pretty much anything and always included me when working on projects. When I was a kid, I went to work with him every day in the Summer.  He took me to place like Put-In-Bay, Idora Park and Nelson's Ledges.  He was the OG Gamer, we always had the newest electronic gadgets and video games.  My Dad's keen sense of humor was like no other, and I will truly miss that!

From his daughter Kathy R. Rogers: One of my fondest memories of spending time with my dad is going fishing and catching my very first catfish!  He had to help me reel it in and of course I dropped it but together we finally got it in. My dad made the best homemade pizzas, it was or tradition when we would watch the Browns games.  He tried to teach me how to make the dough and spin it but I still never managed to get it right.

John was a hard working man that always put his family first, they meant everything to him. His legacy will be carried on for many years to come.  The love for his family and his wicked sense of humor will never be forgotten.

John is survived by his loving wife Faye and his children: John K. (Pamela) Rainey, James E. (Meredith) Rainey and Kathy R. (Dave) Rogers; his grandchildren: Jonathon (Leanne), Arianna, Brandon, Braden, Jess (Justin), James (Ashley), Cody (Jolene), Marcus, Jennifer (Billy), Chuckie (Jasmine), Rain and Zakk; his great grandchildren: Taylor, Travis, Emma, Jack, Ella, Henry, Makenzie, Emily, Stormy, Phoenyx; his br0ther-in-law: Randall Crum, nieces that are very dear to him: Etta (Steve) French, Veronica Abrams, Theresa Rainey, Donna Watson, Lydia Coleman and Kathy Garretson.
He is preceded in death by his father Luigi, his mother Geraldine, brothers: Joseph, Robert and Alfred; his brothers and sisters-in-law Walter, Amos, Dennis, Paul, Emma, Polly, Mary, Rhoda and Jamie.

His family will ne having a Celebration of Life Party to honor John's life and allow others to share their memories of him; the date and time will be announced in the coming weeks.
