Jennifer Barciz Obituary

Jennifer “Ferny” Kathleen Barciz, 37, passed away on April 12, 2024, from complications of Type I Diabetes.

She was born on November 21, 1986, in Mt. Holly, New Jersey, the daughter of her proud and loving parents, Erik O. and Kelly Sue (McCabe) Barciz.

After graduating from high school Jennifer enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served her country for three years.

Jennifer was passionate about many things. She had a creative and artistic mind, whether she was crafting, shopping, cooking, baking, or helping someone in need, Jennifer gave it her all. She always claimed that “food is my love language.” Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday, and she loved to share in all the delectable food offerings on our family’s buffet table. She emphatically stated that every great meal included desert, and she joyfully shopped at pastry and bake shops. Ferny was especially fond of Crumbl Cookie and would often send a dozen to someone she thought needed a good cheering up. Jen and her mom had just visited Davis Bakery & Delicatessen in Cleveland the evening before she was hospitalized. Jennifer’s life revolved around the love she had for her family, especially for her son Parker, who truly was the love of her life, her heart.

She is survived by her parents Kelly and Erik; her loving son, Parker J. Slone; her devoted fiancé, Paul Slone; her maternal grandmother, Kay McCabe; her sister and best friend, Erin (Patrick) Greenawalt; her “baby brother” whom she loved dearly, James (Petros) Barciz; her paternal grandmother, Ruby Gubernath; her aunts: Kathleen (Dave) Watkins, Michelle (Dennis) Guzy and Rosemarie Barciz; her cousins, Mikala, Cameron, Olivia and Kaylee; her nephew Landon, who will always be her little punky; her niece Avery, whom she referred to as her “broke little bestie.” Avery was also her shopping partner that she loved to spoil. Many more family members including great aunts and uncles and tons of cousins. She also leaves behind her best friends for life: Holly, Shannon, and Jen. In addition, her beloved cat, Mittens, who will miss her immensely.

Jennifer was preceded in death by her maternal grandpa James McCabe and her paternal grandpa Lawrence Gubernath. Waiting for her in Heaven is her service dog, Abigail, whom she loved and missed every day.

Just as Jennifer was so giving in life and always wanting to help others, so was she in death – Jennifer was an organ, eye, and tissue donor. She was a hero to her family and now she will be a lifesaving and life healing hero to total strangers. Memorial contributions can be made in her name to “Lots for Soldiers,” PO Box 294, Celina, Ohio 45822; Jen was very active with this charity, both in fundraising efforts and with volunteering her time.

Her family would especially like to thank the Cleveland Clinic for the excellent and compassionate care she received while in the ICU. They would also like to recognize the staff at the Residence Inn by Marriot in downtown Cleveland, Ohio, for their wonderful staff who attended to every need during Jennifer’s hospital stay.
