James Karanasky Obituary

James Karanasky, 64, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Thursday, February 19, 2026.

He was born on May 29, 1961, James was the beloved son of John and Bess Karanasky. He graduated from Edgewood High School and went on to build a life centered around love, family, and the simple joys that brought him happiness.

On February 16, 1980, James married the love of his life, Marsha Showalter. Together they shared 46 wonderful years of marriage filled with devotion, laughter, and cherished memories.

James had a passion for all things sports, both watching and playing whenever he could. He enjoyed gaming, making jewelry, and especially family trips to Disney World. One of his favorite places to spend time was the Crows Nest. For a few years, he fulfilled a lifelong dream of becoming a DJ, going by the name “Spin Jim”.  He also had a tremendous love for animals. Above all, James treasured time with his daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His family was his greatest pride and joy.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Marsha Karanasky; his daughter, Heather (Benny) Sedmak; his grandchildren, Abby, Austin, and Hannah; his great-grandchildren, Aubriella and Autumn; his sister, Janice (Doug) Dehaven; and his niece, Alexandria Dehaven.

James was preceded in death by his parents, John II and Bess Karanasky; his brother, John Karanasky III; his stepmother, Elma; and his stepsister, Darlene.

James will be remembered for his love of family, his warm heart, and the many special moments he created with those he loved.

Visitation will be held Sunday, March 8th 3:00pm to 4:00pm with memorial service to follow at Czup Funeral Home 1329 Lake Ave Ashtabula, Ohio.
