James Hamilton Hulbert, age 88, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday March 12, 2025.
He was born to Reed and Zada (Hamilton) Hulbert on February 3, 1937. He was born and raised in Ashtabula, but also lived for 26 years in Florida, where he and his wife were very active in their Sunday school class at Boca Raton Community Church. Jim graduated from Edgewood High School (the current Braden Junior High School) in 1955, and was a graduate of The Ohio State University with a degree in business. He worked various jobs over the years, but was best known for starting and running “Hulbert’s Restaurant” on Bridge Street in the 1980’s, where his wife, Betty, was famous for baking the homemade pies and muffins.
He was preceded in death by his high school sweetheart, and beloved wife of 63 years, Betty Louise (Davet) on March 17, 2023; his sisters and brothers-in-law: Laura and Richard Silvieus; Claire and Jim Facente, and brother-in-law, Phil Arvidson.
He is survived by his sister, Lou Arvidson of Florida; sister-in- law and brother-in-law, Joan and Jim Dramis of North Carolina; three children: Eric Hulbert, Lynn Woodard (Brian); and Brian Hulbert (fiancé Susan Small),all of Ashtabula; Six Grandchildren (Erin, Nick , Kyle, Corey, Ben and Samantha); five great-grandchildren ( Ada, Morrigan, Eloise, Olive and Isaac)and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, May 24 at Family Alliance Church, 3137 Route 20, Conneaut, Ohio. Visitation will be from 10-12, with a service honoring Jim’s life at noon, officiated by Jim’s nephew, Pastor Jeff Silvieus, with a luncheon to follow at the church. Attendees are encouraged to come and remember a life well-lived, knowing that he is now in heaven. “We do not grieve as those who have no hope.”

Jim’s family would also like to thank “Hospice of the Western Reserve”, for their comfort and care, and for allowing him to pass on to heaven peacefully in the presence of his family at home.
Donations may be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28201, where a brick in memory of Jim and Betty’s lives will be placed at the Billy Graham Library.
