James "Jody" Baker, Jr.

James W. "Jody" Baker, 90, passed away peacefully at his home in Ashtabula on Friday November 6, 2020.

He was born on April 4, 1930, in Port Arthur, Texas the son of James W. and Flora (Harrington) Baker, Sr.

Jody joined the Army in 1946 and very proudly served his country in World War II. After the war he became an engineer for the Norfolk Southern Railroad for 37 years from 1950-1987, and for almost 12 years from 2000 to 2011 he drove for Great Lakes Auto Network.

On September 18, 1995 he married Judith L. Sherman; together they have celebrated 25 wonderful years of marriage together.

He was a dedicated lifetime member of both the AmVets of Mentor-on-the Lake, and the Geneva VFW Post #6846. Some of his hobbies included riding his horse "Nina", and riding his Harley Davidson. He was a good man and a friend to many; he lived a good life and will be missed dearly.

He is Survived by his wife; Judy L. Baker, his children: MaryAnn Lehman (Mike Taggart), Richard Czerr III (Shelly); grandchildren: Zachary (Jenica) Lehman, Alex Lehman, Tara Lehman (Larry Summers), Joelle Czerr, Richard Czerr IV, and Christopher Styzej (Katie); his great-granddaughter Alaina Eve Summers; his dear friends, who he loved like his own children, Phyllis and Richard Scoville, and his 2 dogs; "Lucy Lou" and "Mugzy".

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Raymond.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday November 14th, 2020 at 10:00-11:00 a.m. with services following at 11:00am at Czup Funeral Home, 1329 Lake Avenue Ashtabula. The burial will follow at North Madison Cemetery on Hubbard Road, Madison. Military honors will be provided by the Geneva VFW Honor Guard at the cemetery.
