Harry E. Hanes, Jr., 73, passed away on July 10, 2026, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born on June 13, 1953, in Oil City, Pennsylvania, Harry was the son of Harry and Betty June (Irwin) Hanes. He graduated from Oil City High School in 1970 and continued his education at Washington State University.
Harry was a proud patriot who honorably served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Conflict. His time in the service was a defining chapter of his life, and he carried a deep and lasting pride in having stood in defense of his nation during a time of war. Being a United States veteran was not just part of his past—it was part of who he was.
On March 8, 2007, Harry married the love of his life, Belen R. Ubas. Together, they built a life rooted in love, faith, and unwavering devotion. Their marriage was a true partnership, filled with friendship, compassion, and shared joy. Above all, Harry’s greatest pride and happiness came from his family. He was a devoted husband and a loving, dedicated father to their three children, Harry III, Danielle, and Philip. His love for them was constant, deep, and evident in everything he did.
Harry found joy in the simple and meaningful moments of life. He had a passion for building computers and took pride in his craftsmanship, often creating furniture and special pieces for his family. He loved traveling, especially trips to the beach, and cherished picnics, movie nights, and holidays spent together. Thanksgiving held a special place in his heart, as it brought together the people he loved most. Watching movies with his family, especially The Polar Express, became treasured traditions. His family also said he was known for telling some of the most "corny Dad jokes" ever, even a strangers; just because he wanted people to laugh and smile.
Harry is survived by his beloved wife, Belen, and his children, Harry III, Danielle, and Philip, who will carry forward his legacy of love, strength, and devotion.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026, at 1:45 p.m. at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio, where he will be laid to rest with the honors befitting his faithful service to his country.
