Edward Gray Obituary

Ashtabula – Edward William Gray, 77, passed away August 7, 2025, at Cleveland University Hospital following a brief illness.

He was born in Ashtabula on August 11, 1947, the son of Robert A. and Georgia V. (Gildersleve) Gray, Sr.

Ed graduated from Jefferson Area High School, the Class of 1965; and went on to receive his Computer Programming Certification from Lakeland Community College.

Edward very proudly served his country for two years in the U.S. Army from 1966-1968.

On May 8, 1971, he married Linda A. Burns; his loving and devoted wife of the past 54 years. Linda and Ed were blessed with a marriage filled with love and laughter. God blessed them with a son who gave them grandchildren, and in turn gave them a lifetime of the most amazing memories.

He was an avid fisherman; he loved to golf (and fish the ponds on his way through the back 9 when nobody was looking); he also loved to do landscaping and lawn care around the house.

Ed loved to volunteer and was active in all his son’s activities when he was growing up; he was a Christian Youth Group Leader at Saybrook United Methodist Church; a Youth Baseball Coach at Saybrook, Austinburg, and Ashtabula Little Leagues; a Youth Baseball Umpire at Ashtabula Little League; the past Commissioner of the local Church Softball League; a Member of the God Squad Motorcycle Fellowship and a Certified Youth Bowling Instructor for the American Youth Bowling Association.

He is survived by his loving family, his wife Linda Arlene (Burns) Gray; his son Jamison Davis Gray; his daughter-in-law Stephanie Lee (Woissol) Gray; his granddaughters: Skylar McKenzie Gray and Rylie Elise Gray; his sister Mattie E. Giddings and brother Robert A. Gray, Jr.; his in-laws: David B. Burns, Margaret D. (Matthews) Burns, Harold C. Burns, and Rose Mary (Liviola) Burns; as well as 11 nieces & nephews, 21 grandnieces & grandnephews, and 18 great grandnieces & great grandnephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Robert Allen Gray, Sr. in 1998, his mother Georgia Violet Gray in 2003, his brother John H. Gray in 2023, his sister-in-law Donna M. (Giraro) Gray in 2016, his sister-in-law Judith A (Lomas) Gray in 2012, his brother-in-law James L. Giddings, Sr. in 2020, his nephew Robert A Gray III in 2021, his niece Cathy S.
