Dorothy Eleanore (Ruohonen) Ecklund

Dorothy Eleanore (Ruohonen) Ecklund, 94, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2022, at Saybrook Landing in Ashtabula, Ohio.

She was born on February 7, 1928, in Ashtabula, Ohio, the daughter of Edward and Ellen (Lahtinen) Ruohonen.

Dorothy married the love of her life, Norman “Bud” Louis Ecklund on March 9, 1957. She was married to her beloved Bud for fifty-nine years before he passed away in 2016.

She worked as an Administrative Assistant at the NY Central Reclamation Plant. After leaving her role at NYC, she joined the Carlisle-Allen Company as an Executive Secretary until her retirement.

Dorothy was a lifetime member of the Zion Lutheran Church (currently Lighted Cross Lutheran Church) in Ashtabula, she was active in many of the church’s events and was a member of the church choir.

She is survived by her sister, Elona (David) Hoffman; her daughter-in-law, Cheryl; her grandson, Kip Richard Ecklund; her great-grandchildren: Chelsy, Leah and Jayden Ecklund; her nephew, William C. Ruohonen; her niece and nephew, Pam (Nelson) and Steve Poros and other nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bud Ecklund; her children: Jeffrey L. and Kip E. Ecklund; her brother, William E. Ruohonen and her sister, Esther K. Kish.

Many thanks to her dear niece and nephew, Pam (Nelson) and Steve Poros. The only phone number Dorothy remembered in her later years was Pam and Steve’s. They took such good care of her showering her with treats, cards and lots of visits.

Graveside Service to be held on Friday, September 2, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. at Edgewood Cemetery, 4011 State Road, Ashtabula, Ohio with the Pastor Frederick Davison officiating.
