Dorothy Budd Obituary

Dorothy Budd, 94, died quietly in her sleep July 7, 2022, at her daughter's home in Colorado.

She was born on January 28, 1928 to May (Hanson) and Charles Nelson in Ashtabula, Ohio.

Her mother was a homemaker and her father was the Captain of the car ferry running between the Ashtabula Harbor and Canada.  Mrs. Budd married her first husband, Don Bowdler, soon after they met at the Kingsville Roller Rink. Together, they had a successful fruit farm business, selling apples, peaches, and pears in both Erie and Cleveland, as well as, locally.

They had five children. Denise (David), Debbie (Pierre), Don, Dan (Roberta), and Doug (Nancy). When Don died, Dorothy married Jim Budd and continued the fruit farm business, growing it through building a cider press and selling cider, along with the fruit. Together they also had five children; Carol (Jim), Susan, Ron (Tonya), John, and Jim. After Dorothy and Jim divorced, she worked many different jobs. A few were the Dunne Plastic Co., Conneaut General Electric, and the Ashtabula County Nursing Home.

Dorothy was an active member of the Kingsville Presbyterian Church and the Conneaut Church of Christ while she lived in Kingsville and Ashtabula. When she moved to Claremore, OK she became an active member of the Blue Star Church of Christ. She was a charter member of a neighborhood Charade Club that lasted over 50 years, while living on South Ridge East (Rt 84). Her favorite hobbies were knitting and crocheting, which she learned on her own while waiting for her kids to finish practices after school.

Mrs. Budd is preceded in death by her first husband, Don, and her son, John, and daughter, Denise, along with three sisters (Mary, Janet, Eleanor) and a brother (Charles II).

She is survived by her two brothers, John (OH) and Bob (CA) and two sister-in-laws, Diana (CA) and Gerry (OH), along with 8 children, 15 grandchildren, (Charlie, Renee, Robin, Dan, Christina, Anthony, Jeremy, John, Shannon, Will, Andy, Max, Henry, Abby, Evan) and 17 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, she requested donations be made to the Conneaut Church of Christ. Tim Kraus, the pastor there, will be officiating at Mrs. Budd's service; which will be held on Saturday, July 30, at 9am, at Lulu Falls Cemetery in Kingsville, OH.
