David W. Hoffman

David William Hoffman, 89, of Chautauqua NY (formerly of Ashtabula OH), passed away on December 18, 2025.

David was born in New Brighton, PA on April 27, 1936, to Philip and Mary Hoffman. A Christian, he attended, taught Sunday School and was president of the congregation for many years at Zion Lutheran Church in Ashtabula.

David was proud to be a Marine during which time he served in Okinawa, Japan. Semper Fi!

After his father died unexpectedly, David commuted weekly to the University of Pittsburgh to become a registered pharmacist, taking over Hoffman’s Pharmacy and becoming a third-generation pharmacist for 55 years.

Volunteering as President of the Board of Health in Ashtabula, David served the city for over 25 years.

David was incredibly kind, gentle, loving, generous and a lifelong learner.

 David leaves behind his loving, devoted wife of 66 years, Elona Ruohonen Hoffman. He will be missed by chosen daughter Francesca (Billy) Osigian; grandchildren Breana, Rachel (Derek), Will (Elizabeth), Talia, and Wesley; and great grandchildren David, Jonathan, Ataylie, Christopher, Ella Grace, Olivia, and Hadassah. He will also be missed by his niece Beth Hoffman (David) Adams and nephew Phil (Jeanne) Hoffman and their families.

Preceding David in death was his brother Philip Hoffman and son Joseph Hoffman.

Calling hours will be held Monday, December 22 from 11:00-12:00 with funeral service at 12:00 at Czup Funeral Home 1329 Lake Ave Ashtabula, Ohio.
