Corie Iesha Gunter, 45, passed away on March 25, 2026, at Ashtabula Regional Medical Center after a long illness, surrounded by those who loved her most.
Born on August 6, 1980, in Conneaut, Ohio, to Calvin Gunter and Denise (Heasley) Crockett, Cori’s greatest joy in life came from her family and friends. Her heart was boundless, and she gave it freely—to her children, her grandchildren, and everyone blessed to know her. Though her time here was far too short, Corie filled every day with laughter, love, and the warmth that only a devoted mother, daughter, sister, and friend could share.
She found joy in simple moments—fishing, cooking, spending time outdoors, and searching for hidden treasures as one of the best bargain hunters around. Creative and resourceful, she loved drawing, relaxing with her favorite shows, and sharing time with loved ones at family outings.
Corie is survived by her father, Calvin Gunter; her children: Treveon Gunter, Trinity Gunter, and Tyler Skaruppa-Gunter; her beloved grandchildren, Zaylen, Layelli, and Zion; her brother, Calvin (Erin) Gunter; her sisters, Melissa (Loren) Andrews and Charmarie Wells; her grandmother, Mary Howard; her dear friend, Nick Skaruppa; her aunt, Roberta Lane; her uncles, William Gunter and Steven Lockett; her godparents, Clarissa Judkins and Clarice Wofford; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother Denise Crockett in 2008 and her sister Jade in infancy.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 11, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with a funeral service to follow at 12:00 noon at Czup Funeral Home, 1329 Lake Avenue, Ashtabula, Ohio. Pastor Steve Sargent will preside.
Corie will be remembered for her enormous heart, her selfless love, and the fullness of life she created through the family and friendships she treasured.
