Brenda Sue (Loyd) Simons

ASHTABULA – Brenda S. Simons, 71, passed away peacefully in her home on August 13, 2021 with all her loved ones by her side following a long battle with cancer.

Brenda was a lifelong resident of Ashtabula.  She was born here on November 15, 1949, the daughter of Gilbert and Ethel (Pettit) Loyd.

She graduated from Ashtabula High School in 1969.

On April 4, 1970, she married her high school sweetheart Robert I. Simons; her loving and devoted husband of the past 51 years.

Brenda worked for Topps Grocery Store in the deli department for over 20 years until the store closed.  She enjoyed doing needlepoint, crafts, hummingbirds and reading; she and Bob also loved to go to casinos.  Brenda’s entire life revolved around the love of her family; she was so proud of her children, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren.  They were her reason for living and her truest source of happiness.

She is survived by her loving and adoring family: her husband Bob; her son Adam (Laura) Simons; her daughter Amy (Jeff Myers) Mongell; her grandchildren: Ashley, Gavin, Aiden, Bryson, Kramer and Emmett; and her great-grandchildren: Tessa, Dominick and Devin.

She was preceded in death by her parents Gilbert and Ethel Loyd; and her sister Connie Shaffer.

Her family is honoring her wishes and no public services will be held.  A private family graveside funeral will be held.

Memorial contributions can be made in Brenda’s name to Hospice of the Western Reserve or to the Ashtabula City Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #26 and can be mailed to the family at 922 Eastwood Drive, Ashtabula, Ohio 44004.
