Albina "Bina" R. Larson, 72, passed away January 8, 2021 at UH Geauga Medical Center following an extended illness.
Bina was born in Ashtabula on February 1, 1948 the daughter of Melvin and Mary (May) Larson.
She was a 1966 graduate of St. John High School and went on to Kent State University for her Bachelors Degree in Education; she then went on to Ursuline College to receive her Masters Degree in Administration. She was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church (Our Lady of Peace Parish). She loved to draw and was an excellent self taught artist, she loved crafts, she was a big fan of old movies and she was a huge Ohio sports fan, especially the Indians, Browns and Buckeyes.
Bina taught for the Ashtabula Area City Schools for a small number of years. The majority of her 45+ year career was spent at St. John Catholic High School ; she was a math teacher, a championship softball coach, the athletic director (Ashtabula County's first female A.D.) and finished the last 15 years of her career as St. John High School's principal. She was instrumental, along with many dedicated supporters introducing the annual Festival of Trees and St. Patrick's Day fundraisers to the school. She was so very proud of her many accomplishments at St. John but the thing she was always most proud of was just being part of the "Herald Family". She touched many lives, the lives of both her students and their families; she made lifelong friendships with her coworkers and fellow teachers. She will be missed dearly by so many.
She is survived by her sister Marilyn (Tony) Cifelli, her niece Cheryl (Mike) Cotter; her nephew David (Michelle) Cifelli; her aunt Donna Scoville as well as many cousins and dear friends.
Bina was preceded in death by her parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday January 16, 2021 at St. John School gymnasium at 11:00 am celebrated by Fr. Miller, Fr. Thomas, Fr. Rogers and Fr. Ruggieri. Bina will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Cemetery with her parents.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made in her name to St. John School. Limited space due to the COVID -19 restrictions will be available and seating will begin at 10:30 -The mass will be live streamed at https:www.sjheralds.org/alumni also at saintjohnschool Facebook Live.
