William L. Luoma, age 91, died January 17, 2020 at ACMC with his loving family at his side.
He was born September 8, 1928 to William M. and Lillian Arlene (Dunsworth) Luoma on Lyndon Avenue in Ashtabula Harbor, Ohio
Bill lived in harbor area before moving to the west side of Ashtabula and there graduated from Ashtabula high school in 1948.
He set pins in bowling alleys, delivered ice across the county and upon graduation started working at New York Central RR, which became Penn Central and was Conrail when he retired in September of 1989. He worked in the signal department and retired as assistant signal supervisor with his section from Cleveland, Ohio to Buffalo, NY
He served in the Korean War with the US Army at Fort Knox, KY, Camp Gordon, GA , Fort Devens, MA and Uijeongbu, South Korea.
He was a member of the American Legion and the S.A.R.
He was an avid Cleveland Browns fan having watched or listened to every game except for the time he was in the Army
He married Doris Kelley on April 22, 1951 and they had 3 children: Wendy Henry, William (Cheryl A.) Luoma and Cheryl L (Charles) Hannan; 5 grandchildren: Eric (Laura) Henry, Kurt (Harvinder) Henry and Christopher Tuttle, Robby Tuttle, and Lydia Tuttle; 3 great grandchildren: Stella and Lillian Henry and Bodhi Henry; and a sister Cora Sue Wilfong; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and 2 brothers, Richard and Ronald Luoma.
He was retired 30 years and enjoyed helping his children and grandchildren with any of their projects.
It was his wish that no funeral service or calling hours be held.
