Mary Jo Pritt

July 1, 1934 – April 25, 2019

Mary Jo Pritt, 84, was born July 1, 1934 in Liberty, West Virginia to Mary Ann (Sukaz) and Burlin Brant Williams.  Mary Jo graduated from Tygrats Valley High School in Mill Creek, West Virginia in 1952.  It was in school where she met her husband of 66 years, Artie P. Pritt, Jr.  Mary Jo and Artie were married at St. Philaminos Church in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1953.  Mary Jo, Artie and their children, Ken and Rhonda, moved to Chardon, Ohio in 1963 and began a life filled with love and hard work.

Mary Jo was a woman of faith, trusting in whatever God’s plan was for her.  Mary Jo was blessed with the gift of life through the kindness of a stranger when she received her liver transplant in 1997.  Through this gift she was able to bless many more lives with her presence, kindness and love, especially her family.  Mary Jo did not know the meaning of pain or despair; she always had a positive outlook on life and was resilient.

Mary Jo was a hard working woman who dedicated her life to supporting her husband, raising her children, building a beautiful home where all were welcome and working on their successful farm and several businesses.  Mary Jo supported the local 4-H programs and Boy Scouts of America.  Without hesitation when Mary Jo was needed she was always there for her family and friends.  She was a source of loving support and wisdom.

Mary Jo was called to heaven, carried home by angels, on April 25, 2019.  She died at home surrounded by her loving family after a sudden illness.  Mary Jo leaves to cherish her memories:  Artie P. Pritt, Jr., husband of 66 years; brother, George (Sue) Williams; children, Ken (Carol) Pritt and Rhonda McCummins; grandchildren, Rachel (Will) Boehnlein, Paul Lindsay, Matthew (Stacey) McCummins, Kenny (Haley) Pritt and Jessica (Sean) Nance; great-grandchildren, Hayleigh, William, Tyler, Mary, Christopher and Ainsleigh; and many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.  She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Polly Channell.

A Funeral Mass will be held on May 6, 2019, at the St. Mary’s Church in Chardon, Ohio at 11:30 AM.  Friends and family are asked to join the family for visitation on May 5, 2019 at the Heritage House on the Chardon Square for a celebration of life and prayer service from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, please join us!  At a later date Mary Jo will be laid to rest on the Pritt Family Farm where she will continue to watch her family grow in faith and love.  Funeral arrangements are being coordinated by the Czup Funeral Home.
