Laura Lee McCarthy

December 30, 1937 — April 18, 2022

ASHTABULA- Laura Lee McCarthy, 84, passed away on April 18, 2022 following a long illness.
She was born in Ashtabula on December 30, 1937, the daughter of Arthur and Laura (Macaro) Peterson.
She was a lifelong resident of Ashtabula and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She graduated from Ashtabula High School in 1955. Laura Lee was a hard worker and an active member of the community. She was the first women appointed to the Ashtabula Metropolitan Housing Authority Board of Directors; a past member of the Ashtabula City Board of Health; for 16 years she served as the Ward 4 Committee Women; and she volunteered working the election polls.
On May 6, 1972, Laura Lee married local attorney William E. McCarthy. She loved cooking and baking, and Christmas was always her favorite time of year. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband. Her family was her life. She was a proud and loving mother of 5, grandmother of 13 and great-grandmother of 14; and she loved every one of them with all her heart. She was active with her kids in PTA, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, and school activities but it was her grandkids that absolutely stole her heart; they were the light of her life.
She is survived by her loving family; her daughters: Kim (Alan) George and Laura (Jason) Cole; her son Michael Dominic; her grandchildren: Jack Joseph (Lindsey), Tyler, Logan, Rylee, Josh, Molly, Lindsay (Matt), Krystyn (Jimmy), Jenna (Jimmy), and Angelica, Dominic, Stefano and Justin; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband William in 1998; and her sons Kevin and Jerry.
In honor of her wishes no public services will be held at this time. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place and burial in St. Joseph Cemetery at a future date.
