John Yokosuk

ASHTABULA – John Yokosuk, 93, passed away Sunday September 22, 2019.

He was born in Elbert, W.V. on Dec. 30, 1925 the son of Throthine and Annie Yokosuk.

John graduated in 1944 from Gary H.S. in Gary, W.V. and in January of 1945 he was inducted in to the US Navy and very proudly served his country during WWII.

In 1947 after he returned home from the war he studied engineering at Youngstown State University and he began his career with the American Steamship Co. on the Great Lakes until his retirement in 1985.

On December 26, 1959 he married Evelyn Czayka, his loving and devoted wife of almost 60 years.

John has always had a strong faith and was a member of the Ashtabula First Grace Gospel Church.  He was a member of the Gideons International and the Ship Masters’ Association.  John enjoyed reading, especially the Bible and Traveling with his wife and sons.

He is survived by his loving family, his wife Evelyn, their sons: Mark (Elaine) Yokosuk, Peter (Kimberly) Yokosuk and Nathan (Pearl) Yokosuk;  his daughter-in-law Debbie Yokosuk; his grandchildren: Michael Yokosuk, Morgan (Ryan) Weber, Matthew Yokosuk and Brandon (Angie) Birch; great-granddaughter Layla Birch.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Brian in 2009 and all 6 of his siblings.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 at First Grace Gospel Church, 5730 Adams Avenue Ashtabula with Pastor David Adams officiating.  Calling hours will also be held on Wednesday at the Church from 12:00-1:00 prior to the service.  Burial with military honors will take place at Greenlawn Memory Gardens following the service.
