John Jones

John C. Jones, 85 passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2021, at his home with his family by his bedside following a long illness.

He was born Feb 13,1936 in Lawson Union, Arkansas.  He was married to the love of his life Dora on June 9, 1972.  John very proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War.   He worked as a mechanic at Elkem Metals in Ashtabula, Ohio for 36 years.

First and foremost, John loved his family.  He was a jack of all trades who could fix just about anything.  He loved cars (buying them and working on them) .  He enjoyed watching sports, especially baseball, and even played softball himself.  He loved playing cards.  But all who knew him would agree his favorite thing was spending time with family and friends and making them laugh.

John is survived by his wife, Dora L. (Brown) Jones;  his children: Barbara Jones Essien, of West Monroe, LA, Chanda Jones of Ashtabula, Corey Jones of  Bastrop, LA, Darryl V.(Michelle) Edwards of Houston, Texas,  Manetta Moore of Ashtabula, Patrice (Brian) Jones-Goodwin of Ashtabula and  Terrence Earl (Antionette) Jones (active military proudly serving his country); Grand Children: Devon J. Jones, Zavyer J. Ward- Jones (raised as his own), Daija Essien, Dalonta Miller, Terra S. Jones, Kavon D. Jones, Laila T. Jones, Aniyah S. Jones, Jarell J. Jones, Naiomys T. Jones, Stephen Edwards, Marcus Edwards and Shamiah Edwards; and his siblings: Charles (Pauline) Jones, Fate Jones, Frances Payne, Luther Jones, and sister Lillie Mae Moore

He was preceded in death by: his parents, his sister Daisy Lee Sherman, and his grandson Christian Edwards.

Services will be held on Wednesday September 29, 2021, at Czup Funeral Home, 1329 Lake Avenue Ashtabula.  Calling hours are from 6:00-7:30; the funeral service will begin at 7:30 and the military honors will begin at 8:00.
