Joanne F. Simon
ASHTABULA- Joanne Frances (Robinson) Simon, 72, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning December 11, 2022 in the ICU of A.C.M.C.
She was born on February 15, 1950 in Conneaut, Ohio the daughter of Earnest and Siina (Mackey) Robinson.
She was a proud graduate of Harbor High School's Class of 1968. On July 15, 1971 she married Thomas J. Simon; and together they were blessed with 3 children.
Joanne always felt so lucky to be able to be a stay at home mom as the kids grew up. She was a hard worker who was very proud of her Finnish heritage and her Ashtabula Harbor roots. She and her husband owned and operated the L.A. Café; she was an active member of the Harbor Merchants Association and longtime committee chairperson of the Ashtabula Harbor Days events. She grew up as a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and after marriage became a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She loved music, movies, traveling, going to the beach, and cooking. From the moment she became a mom her life changed to a world that then revolved around her kids, and their lives and happiness; and her life changed even more in a special way when she became a grandmother. The happiness from family was all she really needed in life.
She is survived by her loving family: her husband Thomas; her children: Benjamin (Shelley) Simon of Charleston, S.C., Gregory T. (Lexi Laughlin) Simon and Holly R. Simon-Lane, both of Ashtabula; her grandchildren: Lily, Owen, Henry, Elizabeth, Zayah, Penelope and Elijah; her sisters: Sandra (Dale) Dowler and Penelope (Ron) Rantanen; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Christopher and sister-in-law Patricia Robinson.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday evening from 4:00-7:00 at Czup Funeral Home, 1329 Lake Avenue, Ashtabula; a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3312 Lake Avenue, Ashtabula with Rev.
