George Edward Schneider, 78, passed away with his loving family by his side on July 4, 2023, at his home in Chardon Village, Ohio. Like Rocky Balboa, he fought like the Eye of the Tiger to regain his health, but he is now at peace and no longer in pain, enjoying his glorified body in heaven. Absent from the body, but present with the Lord.
He was born on June 5, 1945, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of William Sunday and Dorothy Lucille (Pfender) Schneider.
George graduated from Shaw High School in 1963. He continued on with his education at Cleveland State University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing.
On July 22, 1966, George married the love of his life, Marilyn Ruth Dodds. He knew the minute he laid eyes on her that she was the one for him. They would have celebrated their fifty-seventh wedding anniversary in just a couple of weeks. George and his beautiful bride raised six amazing children together. He worked hard to support his family and taught them all the importance of having a strong faith, strong values and that family means everything. Over the years, he enjoyed watching his family grow and was known as “Papa” to his grandchildren and his first great grandchild. Memories of special times together will be cherished for many years to come.
George worked for the Cleveland Press and the Plain Dealer for several years as a printer before making a career change into sales. He worked for MCI-WorldCom in phone system sales and then for Siemens. Most recently, he worked in independent sales for security services.
Above all, George loved the Lord and attended Parkside Church and Chardon Baptist Church, where he was able to practice his strong Christian faith.
He enjoyed classic cars, fishing, golfing, supporting his Cleveland sports teams and the Chardon Hilltoppers. His love for the color red was evident in everything from the cars he drove to the clothes he wore. For over fifty years, he vacationed on the beautiful island of Sanibel, in Florida which became the family’s special place. He loved teaching the kids to swim and eating at Cheeburger Cheeburger. His roadtrip slogan was “Door to Door in 24”, driving the family Beauville van listening to James Taylor and Whitney Houston. George’s greatest source of joy and happiness was spending time with his loving family, they meant the world to him. Many of his last words were filled with making sure each person knew how much he loved them.
George is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn Ruth; his loving children: Julie Ruth (David “Tony”) Caldro, Paul Edward (Samantha) Schneider, Mark Richard (Melissa) Schneider, Jonathan David (Heidi) Schneider, David George Schneider and Sarah Ruth Thrasher (Russell Sines); his grandchildren: Joshua (Hannah Blewitt), Madeline, Isabella and Sofia Caldro; Paul II and Maximus Schneider; Rachel (Brad) Martin; Christian and Kaitlyn Schneider; Elizabeth, Emily, Ella and Evan Schneider; Evalyn and Collin Thrasher; and his great granddaughter, Addison Martin; his bonus blessings Asher and Haven Sines; his siblings, Ray (Ruth) Schneider and Marilyn (Bob) Wirth and his cousin, Cindy (Walter) Szczecinski.
He is preceded in death by his parents and cousins, Barb Pfender and Bruce McBrian.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 7, 2023, at 12:00p, officiated by Pastor Jim Hayes, at Chardon Cemetery, 201 Park Avenue in Chardon, Ohio.
