Dennis E. Large

Dennis E. Large, 74, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at UPMC Hamot Hospital in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Born in Ashtabula on June 2, 1948, he was the beloved son of Elsie (Prisco) Matejkovic and stepson of the late Frank “Butter” Matejkovic.

A lifelong resident of Ashtabula, he graduated from St. John High School in 1966.

On December 28, 1991, he married Mary Payne, together they celebrated thirty years of marriage.

In his younger years, Dennis played the saxophone in the Bob Bilicic Polka Band and the local band, Brothers and Friends.

He was a past volunteer EMT for the Ashtabula Township Fire Department.

Dennis enjoyed woodworking and with his outgoing personality he played on many golf, bowling and softball leagues all of which he enjoyed.

Dennis’s last job before fully retiring was at the Ashtabula Sears in the hardware department where he made many lasting friendships.

He is survived by his mother, Elsie, his wife, Mary, his sister, Connie (Donnie) Johnston, his daughter, Regina, his stepchildren, Marth and Kevin and his grandson, Alan.

He is preceded in death by his stepfather, Frank, his grandparents, Sam and Mary Prisco, his aunt, Evelyn (Prisco) Prusak and his sister, Barbara in infancy.

Private family burial will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
