Mary Newman Obituary

Mary Kathryn (Woods) Newman

GENEVA – Mary K. (Woods) Newman, 86, passed away peacefully in her home on November 1, 2019 following a long illness.

She was born in Lancaster, Ohio on June 22, 1933 the daughter of Ellsworth and Mary (Botts) Woods.

After Mary graduated from high school she proudly served our country in the US Army.  Mary was an exceptional cook and baker and she worked in the food service and restaurant industry for many years.  She and her husband owned and operated The Mill Restaurant in Painesville for many years.  The last job she worked was as a cook for Covered Bridge Pizza in Saybrook where she worked until she was 79.

She was one of the most dedicated Cleveland Browns fans you could ever find.  Last year one of her lifelong wishes came true and Mary went to her very first Browns game and received VIP treatment, she also got to witness a thrilling overtime victory vs. Baltimore.  She enjoyed the Geneva Senior Center, especially BINGO and she loved walking and her pets.  Her greatest love was of course her family; she lived for her family and the times she got to spend with them, especially her grandchildren.  She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her loving family, her children: Joseph (Linda) Newman, Nancy Newman, Bruce (Sue) Newman, Sandra (Bruce) Pastor, and Michael Newman; her 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; her former husband and loving friend Peter Newman and her sister Judy McGath.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son Peter in 1978 and her siblings Bill Woods, Jack Woods  and Jean VanAntworth.

A private family graveside  service will be held at Hambden Cemetery.

IF you wish to make a donation in her name, it can be made to Bella Care Hospice – Celebration of Life Fund, 1933 OH-45, Austinburg, Ohio 44010.  This fund helps make wishes for their patients with terminal illnesses come true…like a first Cleveland Brown’s game!
